I have had the misfortune of trying to login to a Zoom meeting, and the software decides that it needs to update ... which causes me to be late for my meeting. As a result, I try to periodically update the Zoom app to avoid this problem.
A couple of months ago, I tried to login the day after one of my updates. I opened Chrome and typed in the meeting address, and I was met with a notice that the app wasn't supported ("would you like to login from your browser instead?"). I accepted the browser login while I tried to figure out what was wrong with the app. Ultimately, I ended up logged in from both the browser and the app, and the entire meeting was being echoed from one to the other which everyone attending had to listen to. The meeting was delayed about five minutes while the problem was diagnosed. Eventually, I was told to close one of them, and that solved the problem. It was a little embarrassing on my part.
I think updating the Zoom app did not update an extension that Chrome uses to access and open the Zoom app. But when I joined via the browser, the browser update was made, and the Zoom app was opened as well. To prevent this problem in the future, I have the meeting ID saved in the Zoom app, and I just access future meetings directly from the app.
All of this made me think, what is everyone's worst virtual meeting experience? Did you ever find out the cause, and how to prevent it in the future?
