T14 vs. T16, AMD vs. Intel?

So, I'm finally looking at potential replacements for my X240, and the new Gen. 3 T-Series machines are attractive to me. I'm looking to see if anyone has any thoughts about one particular model vs. another, or other helpful hints.

Some of my thoughts:

  • I like the Intel versions due to the upgradable memory slot. That has been a big help in keeping my X240 alive up to now.
  • I like AMD overall, especially due to less heat/fan and potentially more power/longer battery life (?). Not so crazy about being stuck with the memory I select.
  • I'll be in Scotland for the next 3 years starting later this year, and I've read that AMD functionality is not as well supported in some European countries (e.g., Germany). Don't know if that extends to the U.K., but it has made me a little cautious.

I'm open to suggestions outside of these models! Biggest hopes:

  • Good battery life
  • Decent processor (compiling TeX to generate book-length documents)
  • 16 GB memory (or ability to expand to it/beyond)
  • Future-proof 5+ years
  • USB-C display support (desired, not 100% necessary)
