Early findings show Creative Pros already using Generative AI in their work

Blog/Article

Generative AI is already proving to be a transformational technology. However there’s still much to learn about how and where humans will integrate it into their work and personal lives.

Creative professionals — one of Adobe’s core audiences — are especially invested in how this new technology impacts both their craft and work. In engaging with this community through digital channels and social interactions, at live and virtual conferences and workshops, through sit-down conversations and research — we’ve heard both optimism and well-reasoned concerns.

In our continuing commitment to better understand the perspectives of all creative professionals, Adobe recently launched a multi-phased survey project to ask how (and whether) they’re using this new technology in their work and where they’re getting value.

The following early findings reflect responses from more than 750 creative professionals in the U.S. and provide a preliminary view into what we’re starting to see. In the coming months we’ll release more data from across the world and provide a global perspective into how generative AI is impacting creative work.

Finding #1: Creative professionals are using generative AI

True to their curious natures, the large majority of creative pros are trying generative AI . In the last six months, an overwhelming percentage (87 percent) used generative AI tools to create or edit content. Additionally, creative pros who have tried generative AI tools now use them in over half of their projects. The top cases for generative AI are to create or edit photos, images or graphics (87 percent) and to generate text (78 percent).

Finding #2: Creative professionals are using generative AI to enhance their work

82 percent of creative professionals who are using generative AI say it’s helping them increase the quality of the content they create, while 78 percent say generative AI is boosting the quantity of their content.

And even though generative AI is still new, more than 55 percent of creative pros who use the tools estimate they’re already seeing a 20 percent time savings.

Finding #3: Creative professionals believe generative AI will help their careers

Overall, 78 percent of creative pros believe that generative AI will positively impact their careers by enabling them to get more creative inspiration faster and create in new mediums and styles.

A small number (7 percent) believe generative AI will negatively impact their careers. Top concerns for this group include that generated content will look the same, artists won’t be compensated when generative AI models are trained on their work, and that they hype around generative AI will create unrealistic client expectations.

More insights to come

We look forward to sharing more insights about creative professionals from around the world — including how perspectives differ by country and generation, and the factors that affect whether and how much they trust the new technology. Stay tuned for more insights to come.
