Simple Business
I have a very small business which was two rentals now down to just one. Teh computer helps me a lot in advertising for renters as well as keeping track of expenses and income. IT helps make my life easier.

Nice to have all the stuff I need for my expenses and making my ads for new renters.

Does Lenovo Ever Plan 🤔 On Making a cellphone 📱?
Simply curious 🤔 about this. Thank you! Have a blessed day folks!
I was wondering the same thing for some time because I see many other computer companies coming out with phones now or in the past. Companies such as Asus, Acer, Apple, Sony, Samsung, Google, and HP. However, I learned through one of the Lenovo communities that Lenovo makes mobile phones through Motorola. The amusing thing is that I have been using a Motorola phone for the past three years. That means I have been using a Lenovo phone this whole time. 🤭

Antivirus protection
Hello,
Do you rely on Microsoft's Defender for antivirus protection?
If not, which product(s) do you use?
--
Anthony
I am currently rolling with the built-in Microsoft Defender that comes with Windows 11. I think I have a free Norton trial floating around, but I never bothered to set it up. Honestly, I despise messing with antivirus software. I used Macs for years and got incredibly spoiled by not having to worry about viruses at all. Now that I’m back on a Windows PC, I am definitely dreading dealing with all of that again.
I remember the old days of buying the Norton Antivirus suite every year on physical discs whenever Fry's or Staples would have a free after rebate offer. It was such a resource hog though, so I eventually moved away from Norton, especially after there were no more frequent rebate offers.
Sporadic "crashes"?
Hello,
I'm not sure if I am the only one who has problems getting access to the site. There seem to be sporadic "crashes" accessing this site.
I am trying to figure out if it is my web browser (Brave) or if the site just reaches capacity and cannot accept new connections.
Here is a picture of the message I received:
I've received the same error message from time to time when logging into the site. After a few minutes, the site loads normally.
For me, this usually happens when I log into the Lenovo store. I have issues accessing the community sites after that for a while, which is truly quite frustrating.
Thoughts on the rumors of Apple dropping MagSafe?
I've been reading about rumors swirling that Apple is thinking of dropping MagSafe from it's new foldable that is still in development. I just think that is a horrible idea. Thoughts?
In my opinion, this is specifically about the iPhone Ultra — Apple's upcoming foldable expected to launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro in fall 2026 — not the standard iPhone lineup. There is no indication that MagSafe is at imminent risk of disappearing from the iPhone lineup broadly. However, the upcoming foldable iPhone Ultra may be a different story — dummy models of the device show no visible indentations for the internal magnet array required by MagSafe, suggesting the feature could be absent at launch. The iPhone Ultra is expected to be just 4.5mm thin when unfolded, suggesting Apple may have omitted the internal magnets to achieve the foldable's required thinness — effectively offloading MagSafe functionality to the case itself.
Another, broader rumor worth noting going around on We chat, where a Weibo leaker says that when MagSafe was first introduced, the mood inside Apple was reportedly aggressive about its expansion, but Apple is now reportedly questioning whether MagSafe should remain a standard iPhone feature across the lineup — though that rumor comes from a source with a mixed track record and no corroboration from supply chain sources. So, just a weird rumor.
In my opinion, this would be a significant step backward for a $2,000 device. MagSafe has grown into a genuinely useful ecosystem. MagSafe is in car mounts, wallets, battery packs, and wireless charging alignment. Dropping MagSafe across the lineup would create a deeper problem than lost accessories. Apple contributed its magnetic alignment spec to the Wireless Power Consortium in 2023, forming the basis of the Qi2 open standard now adopted across the industry. Abandoning MagSafe now would undermine Apple's own wireless charging standard, just as third-party chargers, car mounts, and wallets have been built around it. The iPhone 16e launched in 2025 without MagSafe — and the backlash was immediate. Apple reversed course less than a year later: the iPhone 17e, released in March 2026 at $599, brought MagSafe back. Consumer demand overrode the cost argument once already.
In the past, I saw Apple run this experiment on a budget device, saw a negative reaction, and pulled it. It would not be wise to make the $2,000 flagship without MagSafe.
Have you seen leaked iPhone Fold case images? In my opinion, these appear to show a MagSafe ring on the back, which some are interpreting as confirmation that the foldable will feature MagSafe after all. So the situation is genuinely still in flux, and the dummy units may simply not reflect final hardware decisions. The most likely outcome at this point is that if MagSafe is missing from the Ultra's body, Apple will engineer a solution via the case, which is an imperfect workaround but not a full abandonment of the ecosystem. The broader removal from the standard iPhone lineup seems unlikely given the Qi2 entanglement and the 16e lesson. I am excited to see what happens!
If they're ditching MagSafe entirely, that'd be a shame. The newer version has been really useful - definitely an improvement over what I had on my 2012 MBP.
Third layoff in six years
Well, like clockwork it's happened again, I've been laid off. I actually made it through FOUR previous rounds of layoffs here during and after the McClatchy/a360 merger, but this time (despite my team being quite profitable now), my position was eliminated. I suppose that's one of the dangers of being a manager, my visibility was just higher.
If you know anyone looking for someone in the gestures vaguely content/editing/words world, with over 20 years of experience in a variety of related functions, I would appreciate an introduction!
I am sorry to hear about your predicament. I have been through it several times before I finally decided to go out on my own.
It is never easy, but the first thing you should know is that THIS IS NOT ABOUT YOU.
Never give up. I believe you will soon land on your feet somewhere better for the next stage in your career.
I hear it happening so much lately with all the corporate mergers. I hope you find something better.
RAM pricing
Are we headed in a direction where average consumers will not be able to afford computers? It seems like the AI centers are significantly increasing the costs of not only RAM but now SSDs and GPUs as well.
Tariffs aren't the real problem here. It is the global push to jump on the AI bandwagon that is the main culprit. Unfortunately, this has placed great strains on the existing manufacturers of memory as well as SSD/NVME devices.
To make matters worse, one of the major brands available to consumers, Micron, has decided to exit the consumer space and focus exclusively on the enterprise space.
https://investors.micron.com/news-releases/news-release-details/micron-announces-exit-crucial-consumer-business
Additionally, Seagate, a major storage manufacturer has confirmed that it is sold out through 2026 (and Q1 isn't even done yet!).
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/seagate-sold-2026-ceo-says-183110537.html
I don't think this is permanent. I think that everyone was caught unprepared for the massive surge from the global AI datacenter push.
Although that doesn't really do anything for us now, I fully expect these companies to ramp up new production facilities in the next couple of years...

Probably a necessary precondition to any consciousness eventually becoming computerized, but the fixed centralization of ownership, total lack of anything like a commons, and assymetrical relationship of property claims or use rights seems bad. The centralization of computing represents a structural pattern isomorphic to state property and personal property in state communism, as opposed to which even Hoppean absolutism with respect to property seems an improvement. There are deep patterns here for which solving would require computational analysis of economics with vicious contempt for any politically driven equivocation that claims false distinction between like things.

Lenovo has been great in my journey starting my own business. I can’t imagine how much more stressful this experience would be without their tech.

Fallout Season 2 is my current pick up, I'd like to start Dark but I don't want to have it dubbed so need to give it my full attention to read subtitles.
These are the "new" shows I've been watching recently: Fallout, Shrinking, Hijack and Doc. There are a few more, but I don't think they'll be back for a couple of months. If you let me know shows you've liked in the past, I can probably give better suggestions!

Advanced Filters: What would interest you most?
Hey LPC! We're taking a look at opportunities to better curate conversations and resources that you are most interested in.
To that effect, we'd love your votes below on which new filters you might find most helpful (multiple choice):
Did we miss a great category? Let us know below ⬇️
As for "Other", perhaps an indicator for technology / process industry acceptance:
Legacy / Established - something reliably in use for several (6+) years, e.g., SSD storage, Bluetooth, WiFi, USB-C, 2-in-1 laptop, Windows / Linux, social media marketing, vblogging / TikTok, etc.
Modern - something reliably in use within three to five (3-5) years, e.g., PCIe 4.0, AI Chat, Windows 11, MagSafe wireless & compatibles, foldable-screen laptop, cloud-based video game streaming, mainstream telecommuting, etc.
Emerging - something entering the market in the last year or two (<3) with prospects of greater potential in the future, e.g., handheld gaming PC, tri-fold smartphones, rolling-display laptops, Agentic AI, Silicon-Carbon batteries, etc.
Although I think many of us are curious about emerging tech, I think most businesses like to acquire established tech, or adopt established processes, that they can rely on - it's somewhat guaranteed to work (with the most flaws we can tolerate 😂) via the test of time.
Maybe you can included a related date tag for each article separate from the publication date so the Established, Modern, and Emerging tags can be automatically applied by some Web code based on the current date / year 🤔
...or not - it's just an idea ✌😄
What collected insights would you like to see from yourselves and like-minded professionals?
