I'm becoming more fascinated with BSD. It is less developed and requires much more configuration than Linux, but there are some interesting things happening in this space. OpenBSD is commonly considered the most secure off the shelf operating system. GhostBSD is an attempt to make BSD into an easy to deploy desktop operating system. And there are also more esoteric projects like RedoxOS, which is a Rust based partially POSIX compliant system based on a microkernel, and NetBSD, which is supposed to be very good for running on devices like routers. I'd like to know more about this ecosystem, what people have found it useful for, pitfalls, resources, and anything else of value to know.
