Are you polite to your bots?

Discussion

As a fun topic for a Friday, posing the following question to the Community: Are you polite when interacting with your bots?

And this goes beyond areas like ChatGPT, CoPilot, or other productivity bots - I'm talking about your interactions with Siri/Alexa. Do you thank them? Do you say please?

It's interesting to think about in the sci-fi sense (i.e. be nice to your bots now so they spare you during the robot apocalypse), but also an interesting sociological question: Considering that kids are likely hearing how adults speak to bots and picking up on that behavior, is there a possibility that, in the long-term, we start blurring the lines between how we treat each other and how we treat artificial intelligence?

I'll be honest, I could probably be a bit nicer and more polite when I ask for things from bots - especially if they don't interpret my prompt correctly (I'm very stern with the "Alexa, stop!" at times), but every once in a while I do drop a 'please', or even submit a prompt specifically to thank my bot. Maybe it's out of habit or instinct...or maybe fear of the aforementioned sparing during the robot apocalypse.

What are your thoughts on how to treat the bots?
