E-Sim Compatibility: What are your experiences?

Hey! So, I've spent more than a few hours researching this topic, as there is no "definitive" guide to which Lenovo/Motorola phones are actually e-sim compatible.

Here is a list of devices that tend to pop up consistently when searching for e-sim capable phones:

  • Motorola Razr 2019
  • Motorola Razr 5G
  • Motorola Razr 40
  • Motorola Razr 40 Ultra
  • Motorola Razr+
  • Motorola Edge+
  • Motorola Edge 40
  • Motorola Edge 40 Pro
  • Motorola G52J 5G
  • Motorola G52J 5G Ⅱ
  • Motorola G53J 5G

Some anecdotal references I've read on mobile forums seem to indicate that the Moto G Stylus 5G 2023 is e-sim capable as well, but this may only be for the T-Mobile/Metro variant of this device. Supposedly the Moto G 2023 for Metro is E-Sim capable, but you'd better believe that they aren't going to unlock that for other carriers in the near future. I've also read that the Moto G53 is e-sim capable, but not advertised as such.

So, what are your experiences with using e-sim on Motorola devices? Are there any outlier phones that have surprised you with having an e-sim option in the settings?

My final question, (and probably the most important one, ha) I am currently using an iPhone 13 Mini with e-sim and it's been incredibly convenient for traveling abroad. That said, I miss android, specifically Motorola's devices. Which device would you recommend to someone looking to break up with Apple and return to the Android mothership? (I have T-Mobile US postpaid, and my budget for a phone is usually around $400-$600 if a phone really has that WOW factor.

Hope everyone's having a great week! 🙂
