Trade-In Program: How to trade in your old tech with LenovoPRO

In the celebration of Earth Day, springtime and the spirit of good stewardship, we thought it was high time to shine a little light on the recycling and Trade-In programs here at LenovoPRO - all the whos, what's, where's, whys and how's!

First things first: we have a few different sustainability and recycling programs at Lenovo including the Trade-In Program, Asset Recovery and others. This piece will focus specifically on the Trade-In Program which centers around recycling 1-20 devices per customer. If you're part of a much larger organization with many more devices to trade-in, recycle or dispose of, read more on the Asset Recovery Services Lenovo provides enterprise-level customers here. We will include a few notes around the basic recycling resources we offer at the end of this piece to give you a little more info.

Premise of the Trade-In Program

The LenovoPRO Trade-In Program is part of our commitment to minimizing the impact our products have on the environment. It offers you a way to dispose of your electronic equipment responsibly by reusing or recycling qualifying devices. You will receive a Visa gift card that can be used anywhere Visa is accepted if your device is valued over $5 USD! Getting some direct ROI is one of my favorite perks of this program!

So, how does it work?

There are three simple steps to the Trade-In Program:

  1. Value check: Get a trade-in quote for your device(s) when you go to this link and complete a few questions about your device
  2. Shipping the device: We send you free shipping label and packaging materials for your device's final journey in it's current form
  3. Get paid: You will receive payment as a Visa Gift Card based on your quote within 60 days of mailing

Get Started

Head over to this page to start the trade-in process. Make sure to have some of your device's information handy (specifically your processor) to complete the online steps:

Once you receive your quote, you can chose to accept it, reject it, or go back to it.

If you accept the trade-in quote, the final step is entering your shipping information.

Once you hit submit, voila! Your new shipping label appears. You'll receive your confirmation code and confirmation email.

No need to find a box or print out a shipping label! Simply take your trade-in device to your nearest UPS store and provide the associate the QR code included in the confirmation email. The UPS associate will then print out the shipping label, box, and ship the item to our facility at no additional charge to you. Where's that Staples "that was easy" button?

Program FAQs

How do I get a quote?
Find your product and answer a few simple questions about its condition to see an estimated value. You will receive an email for a message containing quote details and shipping instructions if you choose to accept your quote. If you do not see your product and want to see if there is value, please contact [email protected] to receive a customized quote. The quote is valid for 30 days.

Does the quoted value ever expire?
Yes. Quotes are valid for 30 days. After a quote expires, you may request another quote.

How do I ship my equipment after receiving my quote?

Lenovo will send you a QR code along with shipping instructions for UPS. You will take your equipment to the closest UPS store where you will provide the UPS associate the QR code. The UPS associate will then print out the shipping label and box your equipment for you free of charge.

How long does it take to receive my Visa gift card after sending in my product?

You can expect to receive your Visa gift card in the mail within 60 days of mailing in your equipment.

How is the value of my equipment determined?
The value depends on a variety of factors, including the demand for your specific item in the secondary electronics market and its condition. When you visit the website, you'll answer a few simple questions about your product and describe its condition. Based on the information you provide, Lenovo determines the estimated fair market value of your device and a quote is displayed instantly. Even if your item is not listed, there may still be value. Email [email protected] to inquire about a customized quote. Lenovo can let you know if your item has value and you can choose if you would like to proceed with the Trade-In process.

Can my quoted value change?
Lenovo will contact you if the final value differs from the initial quoted value. If the condition of your product is different than described on your quote, we'll send you a revised quote. You will have seven days to either accept or decline the revised quote. If you decline the new quote value and want your product returned, return shipping fees may apply (please see our Terms & Conditions).

What products are eligible for the program?
Any laptop, desktop, tablet, or smartphone may qualify.

How do I view the status of my quote?
Email [email protected] to inquire about the status of your trade in.

What if I receive a zero-value quote?
We recommend using a local option to help you recycle your electronics simply and safely. Please visit the Lenovo Recycling page to find out how to responsibly recycle your equipment.

What if I can't find my product?
If your product is not listed please email us at [email protected] where we will provide a custom quote.

Can I sell to Lenovo Trade-In if I live outside the United States?
Currently our program is only offered to individuals18 years or older in the US. We hope to expand to additional countries soon.

How will I be paid for my equipment?

Your Visa® Gift Card may be redeemed anywhere Visa® is accepted!

How will my Virtual Visa® Reward be sent?

National Mailback Recycling Program for U.S. Consumers

Lenovo has partnered with Reverse Logistics Group Americas (RLG Americas or RLGA), a leader in environmentally sound product take-back and regulatory compliance, to offer free recycling of Lenovo, Medion, and select IBM PCs[1], Iomega and LenovoEMC network-attached storage devices, and Medion TVs for Lenovo’s home and home-office customers[2].

This service is available for Lenovo, Medion, Iomega, and LenovoEMC's home and home-office customers in the United States who want to dispose of their Lenovo- and Medion-branded end-of-life computer systems and accessories, Medion-branded televisions, and Iomega- and LenovoEMC-branded network-attached storage devices in an environmentally responsible manner while reducing the use of diminishing landfill space. For large enterprise customers, Lenovo’s Asset Recovery Service provides solutions for larger quantities of equipment from all manufacturers, including Lenovo. Please note: to recycle a battery only, please see section above on “Battery Recycling and Disposal” for information on how to access the “Call2Recycle” program for recycling rechargeable notebook batteries.

Lenovo's consumer offering provides a FREE recycling solution (shipping included) for all Lenovo-, Medion-, Iomega-, and LenovoEMC-branded products and select IBM-branded products[1], including system units, monitors, keyboards, mice, network-attached storage devices, and Medion-branded televisions. The program offers convenient options for recycling Lenovo products, including free shipping. Customers simply prepare the product for shipment and follow the steps on the RLGA webpage[3] which includes detailed instructions regarding how to request a free prepaid label.

Lenovo and its recycling partners are not responsible for information left on equipment returned to Lenovo or its partners for recycling. Lenovo recommends consumers use a commercially available data-erasing software application and follow the instructions associated with the software to ensure data is removed from the machine prior to returning for recycling.

[1] To determine if an IBM-branded product is eligible for recycling through the Lenovo program, please contact [email protected] prior to accessing the recycling service.

[2] In certain states, other entities are eligible to utilize this service. Please follow instructions on the RLGA webpage to determine eligibility.

Battery Recycling and Disposal

Lenovo participates in the Call2Recycle program. Rechargeable batteries from Lenovo products such as lithiumion batteries in laptops and lead acid batteries in uninterruptable power supplies can be recycled free of charge at any of the Call2Recycle's more than 30,000 drop-off locations in the U.S. and Canada. For more information about the Call2Recycle program and to locate a battery recycling location near you, visit http://www.call2recycle.org/

Please note, recalled batteries cannot be recycled by Call2Recycle. For information on recalled batteries, please see Lenovo's battery recall information page.

Packaging Recycling

Lenovo has designed our packaging to minimize packaging volume while maintaining the protective performance required to safely ship our products. In designing our packaging, we strive to maximize the use of recycled and recyclable materials. Our packaging is designed to be recycled locally by the end user in most municipal and commercial waste and recycling streams. Recycling packaging locally helps to minimize the environmental impact from transportation of empty packaging for recycling. For information about local recycling options in the U.S., please click here.
