Laptop T61 WiFi problem

Hi I have an older T61 that I was running Linux Mint on, and it worked fine. I need to use windows xp for a project, so I installed XP (from a CD) but the WiFi does not appear in the network connections. Only a dual up connection appears.  The WiF switch is ON in the bios, and ON on front of the computer. I've tried toggling Fn+F5 no help. I think it might need a driver but which one?  I'm running XP version 2002 SP 1. I don't know where to find service pack 3 could updating just the service pack to 2 or 3 solve this problem? I can boot Linux off of a USB thumb drive and the wifi works fine. SO that can all be ruled out. I was able to download  one wireless WAN driver, and tried to install it but I kept getting a . Net error and Told to DL a file from Microsoft website, but the file is no longer there. Probably because they don't support XT any more. (Yes, Im aware it has security problems) but I only need the internet for a few things. Most of what I have to do will be off line. Has anybody out there had any experience with a problem like this?  Another question is how can I find out the manufacturer of the wifi interface in the laptop? I'm thinking SP 2 or 3 may solve the problem, but where can I DL that from? I didn't see it on the Lenovo driver website. Any help or leads would be greatly appreciated.
