laptop or desktop?

If this question is too specific for the community, I can move this post  to an appropriate discussion group.  I suspect my use case is fairly infrequent, but you never know.

I am a late-career clinical psychologist (although if capable and my skill set remains relevant, I may work for the rest of my life), in independent practice.  I have used Lenovo 2 and 1 laptops as my primary driver for the last fifteen years.  My current and main driver is my ThinkPad X1 Yoga 3rd Generation speced out I7 version since 2018 with only one problem (I accidentally damaged the screen two years ago), however I had purchased Accidental Damage Protection and had the screen replaced.  My work entails that I travel to various hospitals and, with the help of my Yoga, conduct psych testing of all kinds.  Over the years I have purchased and accumulated a great deal of proprietary test scoring software that is worth over $100,000 that I have on my Yoga some of which would be irreplaceable and most of which would have to be repurchased at today's higher prices if the laptop was damaged beyond repair.  I suspected that my Yoga sustained its damage because of all the rough and tumble involved in traveling from hospital to hospital and room to room, as I performed my rounds.  After this scare two years ago, I elected to use my Yoga as a stationary device in my home office, docking it to a Plugable docking station and purchased a much less expensive laptop that I took with me on the road, accessing my Yoga remotely, anytime I needed to connect with my testing software.   As a consequence, if I end up damaging my secondary device, much less $$ and time would be at risk and this set up has worked great.

I do anticipate that my 2018 Yoga will not last forever and will eventually need to be replaced.  My secondary laptop is actually wearing out faster than my Yoga!  So here is my question.  When the time comes to replace my Yoga, since the replacement will also be a stationary device, would it be best to purchase a desktop pc (preferably with a small or mini form factor)?  If so, what would you recommend?  I do not play games, most of the proprietary software demands low to moderate resources, I require access to cloud based EMR's, I do lots of word processing, and a bit of note-taking and drawing.

Also, I am in need of replacing my secondary device that I take with me from hospital to hospital and room to room, that I use to remotely access my Yoga or Yoga replacement, write reports, sign documents, take with me to  meetings and conferences and use as a note-taking device, search the web, read peer reviewed journal articles, etc.

Any direction that the community can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks David
