TGIF - Weekend Destress

With just two days to rest and destress from a work week, how do you make the most of your weekend time?

  • I recently revived my interest in building scale plastic models, particularly of Star Trek and related ships and space stations. My unbuilt collection consists of 37 kits comprised of 43 ships and two stations, including the Yorktown-class aircraft carrier "USS Enterprise (CV-6)", the original NASA space shuttle "Enterprise", and a 4-foot tall Saturn V rocket.  This should keep me busy for a few weekends.RelaxedUnbuilt models collection

  • WOAH! How cool is that?! Do you have a favorite model that you've built?

  • I only got back into model building a couple of months ago, and spent most of that time repairing five antique automobiles I built about 30 years ago.  However, I do have one model of which I am particularly proud, because it was the first time I used putty to eliminate seams.  It came out better than I could have hoped:

  • WOW! That is AMAZING! This looks stunning. I have almost zero clue the nuances and mechanics of building models, but I am sure your putty application went a long way to making it look so realistic. And five antique automobiles - life-size or model size? I have always wanted an antique car. However, the lack of safety features makes it impossible for me to invest in one. If someone made antique cars with modern safety features - I would be very interested haha.

  • The automobiles are all 1:24 scale, a common scale for automobile models, especially the older ones.  I have a

    • 1929 Ford Model A Coupe
    • 1931 Rolls Royce Phaeton
    • 1932 Duesenberg SJ Roadster
    • 1933 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron
    • 1952 MG TC

I also have enjoyed building military aircraft, such as an F4U Corsair and a B-52D bomber (one of my to-be-built Star Trek models has an F-104 Starfighter).  I may build more cars (and planes and real-world ships) in the future, but right now it is all things Star TrekRelaxed

  • Ahh, I love it!! Please please please post back here with all your progress as you build! Amazing!

  • This weekend, I just finished a "mirror universe" version of the "Star Trek: Enterprise" ship S.S. Enterprise NX-01, in this case christened the I.S.S. Avenger NX-09:
Star Trek: Enterprise - I.S.S. Avenger NX-09 (mirror universe)

  • Wow! Aw, it looks so cool. Wouldn't it be amazing to ride in something like that?!
