If you normally work at a location but you take your laptop with you often a dock is great. It simplifies everything to a single cable to plug and unplug. The Thunderbolt docks are great if you need the 40GBps speed that Thunderbolt provides. Otherwise, look at the USB-C docks, they will save you money and do the same thing. The USB-C docks only go up to 10GBps which is still fast.
